Process Technician

Job Location: Portage, WI

Summary

The primary role of the Process Technician is to develop and document the process parameters of thermoforming production through sampling or other means for consistency and efficiency.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Develop and document job specifications to determine machine adjustments and material requirements to optimize production.
  • Develop manufacturing process operation parameters according to specifications found through sampling. Collaborate with Engineering to develop new tooling and processes.
  • Observe machine operation to detect product defects or machine malfunctions.
  • Measure product dimensions to determine accuracy of machine operation and compliance with product specifications.
  • Maintain documentation on all production processes, maintenance logs, set-up sheets, audit sheets, packing lists, etc., as deemed required.
  • Build production ready mold plugs and work holding fixtures.
  • Perform pattern changes per engineering specifications.
  • Assist maintenance with major repair of equipment and machinery.
  • Assist production floor with the start-up of new production orders.
  • Maintain regular and predictable attendance.
  • Follow applicable Versatility Chart.
  • Perform all duties within regulatory requirements and company policies & procedures.
  • Perform other job duties and assignments as requested or as business needs require.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • Two-year degree or certificate in plastics processing from a college or technical school; or one to three years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Knowledgeable in the controls to activate machine, while monitoring and adjusting when needed during operation to optimize production output.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to walk and reach with hands and arms. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 80 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment

The work environment characteristics described in this section are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee frequently works near moving mechanical parts. The employee is occasionally exposed to risk of electrical shock and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.

Must have the ability to work periodic overtime and weekend work. Has on call duties and may be required to stay longer than a standard shift due to production machine downtime. The work is scheduled for 12-hour shifts; however, they may be required to assist with time off coverage.
